1

The Condition Your Skin is in

You can’t fully control the condition of your skin but there’s a lot you can do to influence it. Good skin habits make a big difference. Washing your makeup off and using moisturizer with SPF are great skincare habits. Eating right also helps you to have beautiful skin. When your skin is in good condition you’ll find you have many more good makeup days than bad ones.

2

Know Your Skin Type: Oily, Dry or Combination?

The type of skin you have affects what skin care products and type of foundation you need. Oily skin and dry skin aren’t difficult to recognize. But if you have combination skin you may be confused; combination skin has both oily and dry areas. Once you know your skin type, find a line of skincare products that are specific for your type. Oily skin will need more of a matte foundation while dry skin will need one that’s moisturizing. Combination skin is tricky so you’ll need to find one that doesn’t lean too far toward being matte or moisturizing.

Wearing the Right Shade of Foundation

Once you know what type of foundation you need then you have to figure out what shade is right for you. It’s more important to wear the correct shade than it is to wear a certain brand. The right shade of foundation will blend effortlessly into your skin. If it makes you pale or orange, it’s not the right one. Your foundation should look like your skin but better.

Good Makeup Days Usually Involve the Use of Concealer

Concealer is a very helpful makeup product. It’s wonderful at covering dark circles and blemishes. To get the best results, dab it on instead of rubbing it in. When you rub it in you could accidentally rub it away. Use a light hand while applying your concealer. Your ring finger or a concealer brush are the best methods for applying it.

5

Carry Blotting Papers for Touch Ups

Blotting papers are what you want to reach for when you need a touch up. Instead of adding powder when your face is oily or sweaty, use a blotting paper. They soak up oil and sweat leaving your makeup intact. Add a bit of powder after blotting away the grime if you feel the need. Blotting papers are essential!

Cleaning up Stray Mascara Marks with Q-tips

Do you ever get mascara marks on the tops of your eyelids where your lashes hit before they’re fully dry? It’s an issue. When this happens to you, take a q-tip and dab the mascara mark away. This method of mascara clean-up doesn’t mess up your eye makeup at all. It saves you time reapplying, as well.

Prep Your Lips for Lipstick with a Lip Balm First

Lipstick will go on more smoothly if your lips are hydrated and prepped. The best way to do that is with a lip balm. There are hundreds if not thousands of lip balms that you can choose from. My absolute favorite is by EOS. It’s minty and at $3, it’s a steal. It gives my lipstick a perfect surface to work with.

These are 7 things that make a difference between a good makeup day and a bad makeup day. What makes a good makeup day for you? I can’t wait to read your answers!

Omg thanks for that tip @Daileen!

Foundation isnt supposed to be all over ur face, ur supposed to use it where u need it most. Otherwise great tips

@Daileen: I tried your foundation tip and it works, especially if I pucker my lips and insert a clean finger to avoid getting lipstick stains on my teeth. Or, blotting once with a folded tissue.

A good makeup day for me is when my acne doesn't flare up :-(

Adding foundation to your lips before applying lip stick creates a base and makes your lips look much fuller. Just another tip.

Thanks for the tip @Daileen! I'll have to try that out :)
