Natural make up is such a winner, ladies, but if you’re not sure how to apply it, it can go horribly wrong. The trick is to enhance your own natural assets without overloading them, and while this doesn’t sound difficult, it’s often tricky to strike the balance between too little make up and way too much. I’ve put together a list of 7 steps to pulling off the natural look to help you girls achieve flawless faces.

1

Find a Good Primer

Makeup primer helps to prepare skin for foundation and the layers that go on top of it. It smoothes out your imperfections and provides an even canvas for your makeup. Primer helps to minimize blotchy , uneven foundation which will really get in the way of a beautiful natural look.

UPD:

When choosing a primer, consider your skin type—whether it's oily, dry, combination, or sensitive. A mattifying primer can work wonders for oily skin by keeping shine at bay, while a hydrating primer can provide the moisture that dry skin craves. Additionally, look for primers that offer benefits like pore-minimizing or color-correcting properties to target specific concerns. Remember, a little goes a long way; you only need a pea-size amount to cover the entire face. Gently apply it with your fingers or a sponge for seamless coverage.

2

Well- Applied, Quality Foundation

If you do wear foundation – a lot of girls choose not to – and you’re going for the natural look, you want to make extra sure that it’s perfectly applied and that it matches your skin tone. The primer will help you achieve an even base coast, but girls you still need to check your face for streaks, lines and unblended patches.

3

Concealer

A well constructed natural look is all about flawless, dewy skin, and dark bags under your eyes will absolutely ruin that. Get a great concealer to eliminate these imperfections. Find one with a slightly yellow undertone – these tend to blend better and won’t give you alarming pale circles around your eyes.

UPD:

When choosing your concealer, match it to your skin tone for the most natural effect. Apply it with a light hand, starting at the inner corner of your eye and blending outwards. A dab on other blemishes or areas of redness can help even out your complexion. Remember that less is more—using too much concealer can actually draw attention to what you're trying to hide. Choose a formula that is creamy enough to blend but firm enough to stay put. Seek out quality products with hydrating ingredients, as they'll help maintain that fresh, natural glow.

4

Mascara to Match Your Colouring

So many girls make the mistake of buying a mascara that doesn’t suit them. While black is the most popular choice of mascara, it is by no means flattering on every face. If you’re blonde, for example, black is far too harsh for daytime wear. If you’re keen to create the natural look, opt for a delicious chocolatey, brown. It’ll emphasise your eyes without making you look overmade up.

UPD:

Similarly, redheads can benefit immensely from using auburn or burgundy hues, which complement the warmth of their hair color beautifully. Those with delicate, fair skin may find these softer tones more flattering and gentle for a truly natural appeal. Even individuals with darker hair can go for softer black or dark brown to avoid a stark contrast, especially during the daylight hours. Always remember that the goal is to amplify your natural beauty, not to overshadow it with overly bold choices. Keep your complexion and hair color in mind when selecting the perfect mascara shade.

5

The Right Eye Liner

As with mascara, it’s important that you choose an eyeliner that doesn’t appear too harsh. In almost every complexion, a red-brown pencil works the best. Again, black is too dramatic a look to be natural and is best reserved purely for nighttime looks.

UPD:

When selecting your eyeliner, also consider other factors like texture and application. A gel or pencil liner tends to blend more easily, giving you that soft, undefinable edge that mimics a shadow rather than a line. A slight, subtle wing can lift the eyes, but keep it minimal. Steer clear of liquid liners as they tend to create a sharper, more defined line that can detract from the natural look you're aiming for. Remember, the goal is to enhance your eyes in the most understated way possible.

A Subtle Illuminator

By subtle, girls, I mean not too sparkly. Some illuminators just cover your face in glitter and these are obviously no good if you’re keen to look natural. A sheer, sparkle-free illuminator will just define your bone structure in an understated way, and can even be dabbed on your eye lids for a luminous, wide-eyed effect.

UPD:

When choosing the right product, look for keywords like "dewy," "radiant," and "halo effect." These tend to signify that the product will enhance your complexion rather than overshadow it with unnecessary glitter. Apply sparingly along the high points of your face—your cheekbones, the bridge of your nose, and your cupid's bow. This technique captures the light subtly, giving you that perfect sun-kissed glow without giving away your makeup secret. Plus, if you have drier skin, a liquid-based illuminator can add that much-needed hydration for a plump, fresh-faced finish.

7

Lip and Cheek Stain

Instead of a conventional powder blush, this fab, versatile product will give your both cheeks and lips a natural tint without sitting on the skin very obviously. While blush and rouge tends to highlight pores and cling to tiny facial hairs, sheer cheek stain goes on smoothly and gives the impression of colour that shines through from under the skin.

There we have it ladies: my list of 7 steps to pulling off the natural look without over or under doing the make up. Do you have anything to add, girls? Share your beauty secrets; I’d love to hear them!

Where Thoughts and Opinions Converge

you can still contour but do it very lightly...and you can use a lipstain that is very close to your natural lip color to define your lips. the eyeliner shouldn't even be used...only mascara is necessary in my opinion.
