And I mean gurus as 'gurus'

On the plus side, you can gain a lot of valuable tips from beauty bloggers. If you don't like one just go on to find one you like! I love when real people review products to the public. It's a good chance to get their point of view.

I love YSL lipsticks! @Serene sorry you had such a bad experience. Love this color they recommend. As per vloggers - I think they are just people passionate about beauty, I do not think everything they review is endorsement. When I was doing beauty blogging I would only recommend what I actually liked. If you look at what magazine editors are recommending - it's the same story, they are mainly journalists with passion for beauty who test random samples companies send them. So, I would not be too hard on vloggers.

Yeah, I cringe watching so many "gurus" now. The advice is not always great and their always trying to be different and quirky. Like Essie button. Check out beauty guru talk (or forums or something). The only people I can stand on YouTube now are EasyNeon and HeyClaire

My question is what kind of a qualification do these people have to promote these products? Who are they ?

I have severe allergic reaction to YSL lipsticks - they make my lips itch and turned them dark!! Took months for the pigmentation to disappear!!

YouTube gurus like Bethany Mota don't have any qualifications. A lot of them are just advertisements now for certain companies with no real beauty training.

Unfortunately now moat beauty bloggers are only in it for money. Bethany mota is a prime example. She has zero training and does the same look in every video. She's often a walking pinterest or buzzfeed page. There's also an awful amount of bloggers that will review anything positive as long as they get sent it, Michelle Phan unfortunately comes to mind, she used to use tons of brands, then for a while it was just her own, which was nice, then it was benefit, then it was shu umera, and every video basically has a brand, if she doesn't use all PR products. The ones who have done it for a long time, and truly say what they mean, and don't do the same thing every video, are truly in it for passion, not money or fame, but they're rare to come by now. Jacklyn Hill (sp?) gives awful advice that makes people who went to school for makeup cringe. Every video I see I go "no don't do that" because she contours with bronzer, or tons of other things like that. It's unfortunate that real makeup artists are not getting the fame they deserve rather than people who just Google something or read it on pinterest and say its right because they say so.

You can buy the Olay body-wash at Walmart for about 5 dollars.
