The holidays, with all their glitz and glamour, are upon us, which means there are things to consider about glitter make-up. It’s fun to refresh your look with a touch of bling, but you aren’t five years old anymore so you can’t just take a bath in it like was once totally acceptable. I know, it’s a little bit sad, but there is good news. Taking into account the following things to consider about glitter make-up allows you to enjoy some sparkle this year while still looking like the fabulous grown up that you are.

1. More is Not Better
There was a time when a heavy hand with the glitter was fine, but those days are gone. One of the most important things to consider about glitter make-up is how much you put on. Done correctly, you can look stunning. Done badly, you’ll like you got into your preschool niece’s play make-up. Go subtle and light for the best look.
2. Dust on Your Cheeks
Your cheeks are a great place to go for a subtle glittery glow. That sparkle can take the emphasis off fine lines and wrinkles and give you a healthy glow that will make you the most beautiful girl at any party. Use a blush brush and choose a glittery blush or bronzing powder. That way you get just a hint of glitter with your cheek color.

3. Try It on Your Nails
If you’re having trouble mastering the fine art of glitter make-up application, you are not alone. I’m right there with you. Instead of torturing yourself, do what I do. Apply glitter nail polish. You’ll still be the belle of the ball because your fingers will catch the light whenever you move them. Choose festive holiday colors and you’ll smile every time you look at your fingernails.
4. Sprinkle It in Your Hair
Ok, it’s technically not make-up, but your hair is a great backdrop for a subtle dusting of powder. You can buy hairspray infused with glitter, which is great because you get some shine and your hair stays in place at the same time. What more could a girl want?
5. Your Outfit
If you’ve ever shopped for a new dress around the holidays, you know how sparkly the dresses and sweaters are. Here’s a tip you’ll want to keep in mind. If your outfit is sparkling, you might want to skip the extra glitter when you apply your make-up. Again, there is such a thing as too much glitter so go with one or the other, but not both.
6. Line Your Eyes
This is one of my favorite ways to wear glitter make-up. Choose a silvery, glittery eye shadow and use an eyeliner brush to apply it along your top lash line. This is great for a girl who doesn’t want to be the center of attention every time she moves. It gives you just that hint of holiday glitter that you’re craving.
7. Slick on Body Cream
Choosing a body lotion that has glitter mixed in is such an easy way to shine this holiday season, or any time of the year for that matter. All you have to do is rub it in. The great thing is that the flecks of glitter are tiny so they don’t make you uncomfortable and they won’t turn you into a walking disco ball either. And you get a good dose of skin moisturization at the same time.
