1

Natural

This may seem like the most obvious of my make-up tips for the office, but keep it natural. There’s a time and a place for the full-on smoky eye and scarlet lip, and the office is not that place. It’s important to look polished and professional at work; the right look can create the right impression and help ensure that people take you seriously. Plus, the more make-up you wear, the longer it’s going to take you to get ready.

2

Flawless Skin

First things first; it’s good to get into a skincare routine – a gentle exfoliator and a moisturiser is a good place to start. You’ll already been on your way to radiant skin. If you have clear skin anyway, just stick to a touch of concealer or some tinted moisturiser. If you want more coverage, choose a light-reflecting foundation and apply evenly with a brush. The end result should be light and fresh.

3

Eyes

You want to make your eyes pop, but there’s a big difference between day- and night-time eyes. For the office, start by sweeping a natural eyeshadow colour over your lids; maybe beige, a light grey or a blush pink. Add a little eyeliner in the corners of each eye, brown if you’re fair or black if you have darker hair and eyes.

4

Lashes

Long lashes will really open up your eyes, especially if you’re really tired; apply layers of mascara – work from the root out and wiggle! For those especially early mornings, add a little white eyeliner on the inner rims, on the outer corner.

5

Lips

This depends on whether you’d prefer to emphasise your eyes or lips. If it’s your eyes, then go for a more natural lip – you could stick to a clear gloss, a nude or a light pink. If you prefer to highlight your lips, red lipstick can still be worn in the workplace, especially if it’s your signature look. You could try berry or deeper red tones rather than a pillarbox colour – save that for nights out.

Blush

All that’s left is to apply a little blush. Leave the bronzer at home and just give your cheeks a rosy glow. You could add some highlighter to emphasize your cheekbones too. To save time (and money), most make-up brands sell multi-tasking products now. You could use the product for both your blush and your lipstick, then just pop it in your bag for retouches during the long work day.

7

Speedy

That should be your basic make-up routine; once you’re happy with it, stick to it. If you follow this, you should only be using a maximum of six make-up products for your office look. Clear out all the empty tubes and out-of-date products you never use anymore, then when you come to your make-up bag in the morning, everything will be easy to find.

Well, this is the make-up routine I follow every morning, and I hope it gives you some ideas too. What are your make-up tips for the office? Do you have any tips for even-speedier routines?

Where Thoughts and Opinions Converge

Love this article. Very helpful :)

Unfortunately i have no time to put makeup every morning to go to work. I've even tried makeup tutorials on youtube but i look awful. It doesn't seem natural and just looked trying hard. So i just gave up.

I like the color advices, but the 2nd step is for ideal skin, as well as shadows application. E.g., for me the primer for foundation and shadow is mandatory, as well as top coat to firm the foundation for better stay - otherwise my shadow will disappear till I come to work, and foundation will look terrible in half a day. I think other girls has at least several things they have apply as well - e.g., various colored concealer together with foundation or lip and eyebrow pencils.
