People have a lot of opinions about women, makeup, why we wear it, how we look in it … the list goes on. Not to say that women are the only people who wear makeup, of course, but we are generally the ones who receive opinions about. People tell us we don't need to wear so much. That we look better without makeup. That we look tired when we're not wearing any. The truth is that there are dozens upon dozens of reasons why women wear makeup, and they rarely have to do with gaining approval from anyone else.
First and foremost, know this: we wear makeup for ourselves. Not for other women, not for boys, but for ourselves. We pick out the products we want. We apply them the way we like. We wear makeup for ourselves.
Makeup is gorgeous. I mean, in and of itself, makeup is beautiful. Have you ever seen a brand new tube of lipstick? Please.
Makeup can be an art form. It's a means of expression. This is how some of us choose to express ourselves.
Sometimes a girl needs a little help with a spot or an under-eye circle. DEAL WITH IT.
Every woman has a range of selves inside of her. Makeup allows us to see some of those different versions of ourselves. There's the no-makeup look, the natural makeup look, the professional look, the date night look, the glam look, and the super fancy formal look – just to name a few.
Because when we don't, everybody starts asking if we're sick or tired or angry or whatever, and that ish is tiresome.
Putting on makeup is zen. It's therapeutic. You can get lost in the process and take time for yourself. It's kind of lovely.
Some women simply feel more like themselves when they're wearing makeup. And that's cool. Why? Because it's their choice, that's why.
Other women feel more confident with makeup. That's cool, too. Because it's their choice.
True story. I don't wear a lot of makeup because I'm lazy and not good at applying it, but even I get in the mood to play around with eyeliner looks and new colors sometimes.
Trying new formulas, testing out new products, putting together different color combinations – makeup experimentation is bomb!
Plus, yes, it is often quite tempting to try out all the revolutionary cosmetics that pop up seemingly every single day.
We change our clothing with each new season. We may change up our hairstyle. And yes, we change our makeup, too. We have to. Spring colors do not look good in autumn.
The right makeup can take a hairstyle or an outfit and make it next level. Sometimes makeup is all about polish.
Makeup is transformative. It's practically magical.
Daring red lip. Killer winged 'liner. The perfect mascara formula. We walk out like warriors when our faces are in place.
You can go from girl-next-door to femme fatale. The point is, makeup allows us to be whatever we want to be.
However, there's usually only one real reason why women wear makeup – we do it because we want to. If we don't wear it, it's because we don't want to. We are not hiding, we are not lying, and we are not trying to impress you. It's just that we are warrior goddesses and this is our war paint. But tell me – why do you wear makeup?
